So, why is it when we become a Christian we suddenly think we have it all together, know what we need to know, and don't need to be equipped or trained on what it means to be a Christian? Simply going to church is not going to give you the answers you need.
But
in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an
answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you
have. But do this with gentleness and respect. 1 Peter 3:15
To be equipped for the work that God has called us to do, we first must know God. Going to church will start building that knowledge, but it will only take you so far. You must be willing to learn and equip yourself on what it means to be a Christ-follower. To know God you must spend time with Him, reading His instruction manual (the Bible), asking Him for His advice (prayer), and being willing to listen (in silence) to what He has to say to you. When you do not understand what you are reading, ask someone who is further along in the Christian walk than you are. There is no such thing as a stupid question. If you are going to grow in your spiritual walk you have to be willing to wrestle with what you are reading, ask questions, and go further in your research. How else will you understand what is being asked of you? This is one of the problems with the world today. We have too many Christians who have a worldly viewpoint and only 4% who have a Biblical Worldview. We need to change the statistics and be equipped to do good work.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
