As I mentioned in a previous post, Elijah has graduated, a year earlier than anticipated. At this point he does not plan to go to college, but is keeping his options open. There are a few things he thinks he might be interested in doing that requires college, but since he is not sure he will wait until he has a solid plan so he doesn't waste money. He loves his job and enjoys working so that is what he will be doing for the foreseeable future.
He has been working for almost a year and saves most of his money. A few weeks ago we went to the bank to add a savings account and a checking account to his debit account. In our state you have to be 17 in order to have a checking account.
Matt and I had planned to help him buy a car in July so he can be used to driving it by the time he is able to get his license in August. Then Matt found out that car interest rates had gone up this month and they are scheduled to go up next month and possibly the month after that. After talking with Elijah to see what he wanted to do, we decided to go car shopping to see what he wants to buy.
After visiting the Hyundai dealership and the Kia dealership Elijah had pretty much decided what he wanted to buy. However, instead of going ahead and buying it he decided to look at Mazda's as well, to be sure. He and Matt got online and looked, but Elijah didn't like their safety ratings. They had looked at quite a few cars online before they had narrowed it down to Hyundai and Kia. This past Tuesday we took Elijah back to the Hyundai dealership where he purchased his very first car! Since he is only 17 he could not take out a loan in his name so Matt secured his financing. However, Elijah put the money down for the car and he will be making the monthly car payments. Since he will be living at home for the next few years and will not have very many bills, I encouraged him to get a new car because he can afford it. Then, when he decides to go to college, or get married, or move out, he will have a reliable car and it will either be mostly paid off or completely paid off. Hyundai offers the best warranties around. Elijah decided to pay for their 10 year warranty (or 100,000 miles) that will cover him bumper to bumper if anything goes wrong!! That is an incredible warranty that comes with great peace of mind. He also has unlimited car washes, gets free oil changes (more like buy one/get one as long as he gets them done there). Big Ed made the experience great and they really did give him a great first experience with buying a car. I think if we ever buy a new car again we will go back there.
It is so weird walking up to the house and seeing a blue car...and it's annoying trying to rotate 4 cars around our awful driveway. I asked Elijah a few days after he bought the car if he had buyers remorse, he said no! Which is good. I got to drive it the first time on Sunday when he realized after getting to church that he had forgotten his permit-oops 😂 His loss was my gain, it is a sweet ride. The only thing we really don't like about it is that it doesn't have a CD player (they are not putting them in ANY of the new cars) and we hate that. Otherwise we are completely satisfied with the car. Also, realizing that I have not posted Elijah's graduation pictures yes (eventually I will), I will leave you with one or two pictures from that.
Congratulations to you Elijah and the Davis family. Enjoy your new ride.
