"But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give a reason for the hope you have. But do this with gentleness and respect." 1 Peter 3:15

Frozen Lake Erie

Today, 2/22/25, we went out to Edgewater Park in Cleveland to see the frozen Lake Erie! It was partially frozen earlier in the year, but we were not able to make it out there. This is the first time since we've moved here that it has been frozen. We went to the part of the park where there is a sandy beach and a swim area. It was 19, sunny, with a brisk wind when we got there. Most of the sand is covered with snow, and the lake is as well. In case you are wondering what frozen sand feels like, it feels like frozen dirt (Elijah made that observation 😂). We went a decent way out onto the lake, but not as far as other people had gone. The snow was pretty deep on the lake, and it was hard to walk in, plus super cold! I would love to go again and see it when it is frozen without snow, which I think would be even cooler than it was today. I will make comments on some photos, but basically all the uneven terrains are frozen waves.

It's a little hard to see, but those are frozen waves in front of me.

Basically where the sand meets the lake.
It's hard to see, but there are big ice rocks for lack of a better word, I tripped over one, thankfully I didn't fall, but it made me be more aware to watch out for them them!

I think this looks super cool.

Me and Matt standing on the frozen lake with the Cleveland skyline behind us.
Me and Matt with the lake behind us, you can see the wind doing fabulous things to my hair, LOL!

Another view of the waves.

On another wave
You can't tell where the lake ends and the sky begins.

You can see the ice here, the snow wasn't as deep in this spot.

This is one of my favorites because I was able to move the snow off to see the ice. Can you see the leaf under the ice?!
If there are rocks, they will climb 😂. I went up a less steep way, still on the rocks though.

They climbed more rocks, I did not. I knew I would fall, there were slippery spots everywhere.
On the rocks in front of the lake.
On top of the rocks. This was supposed to be a picture of all three of them, it was so bright I somehow managed to cut the other two out.

Hillsong United - I Stand In Awe Of You
by Hillsong United

You are beautiful beyond description
Too marvelous for words
Too wonderful of comprehension
Like nothing ever seen or heard
Who can grasp you infinite wisdom
Who can fathom the depth of your love
You are beautiful beyond description
Majesty enthroned above

And I stand, I stand in awe of you
I stand, I stand in awe of you
Holy God to whom all praise is due
I stand in awe of you.

The chorus of this song is what was going through my head as I was taking in this incredible view. The pictures don't quite do it justice, but only God can create something like this.
On a side note, if there is something you want to do and think you will have time later, do it now! We don't have all the time in the world, although we think we do, none of us are guaranteed tomorrow. I recently found out that a 32 year old author passed away in the middle of an emergency surgery, she was pregnant with her third child. Just weeks before she passed she was talking about all the things she felt she needed to be doing, and she kept hearing "you have time." It kills me that she passed and left young children behind, and she didn't have time to do all the things she wanted to do. I mourn for her family and their loss. Take the time to do what is important, visit the sites you want to see. Linger in the moments that inspire your awe.
I am so thankful we took the time to see this. We didn't necessarily want to be in the car for 40 minutes (one way), but it was worth it. Do the things, live intentionally, leave room for no regrets. God had created so many great things in nature, get out and see them (future self, remember you said this, LOL!).
"To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen." Philippians 4:20

"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." James 1:17
