"But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give a reason for the hope you have. But do this with gentleness and respect." 1 Peter 3:15

Reusable Paper Towels

Before Christmas, I was talking to Matt and I told him that I had come across a blog talking about reusable paper towels. I LOVED the idea and couldn't believe I had never thought of it before. Essentially, you use old towels, washcloths, or flannels to make the paper towels. Who doesn't have old towels laying around? But, you can pretty them up with other fabric. To see how it is done, you can click here. I love how the blogger lists all the reasons you should switch to reusable paper towels, it is a great article and they are so easy to make.

We are always looking for ways to save money. I told Matt I could make us some and we wouldn't have to buy paper towels all the time. Plus, it would be good for the environment. Well, he was not as enthusiastic as I was. He said, everything I use paper towels for is messy. He uses them to clean up raw meat, bacon grease, things of that nature. Well, with it being close to Christmas, I was busy sewing up Christmas gifts and didn't have time to make them. I figure I would do it after the holidays and after we got back from visiting my sister and brother in TN.

It just so happens that my sister gifted me a set of reusable paper towels!! I was SO excited! Matt not as much, until we got home. As I type this, it is the 18th of Jan, and we have been home since the 1st. We have been using these since the day we have gotten home, and my disposable paper towels have not had to be changed yet. In 18 days we have used a few of the disposable paper towels, but have used the reusable ones every day, and sometimes multiple in the same day. Matt was floored by how often he actually uses paper towels for non messy things, like drying his apples after he has washed them ๐Ÿ˜‚

The Chloven roll of paper towels comes with 25 towels. In 18 days we have not gone through all of them. I wash the used ones once a week, and then quickly roll them back around the handy dandy paper towel roll, over the unused towels. At first I thought I would just fold them and sit them beside the other paper towels, but rerolling them works so much better than having anything else sitting on the counter. You all know how organized and neat I like things (and yes, the background is messy, we had just gotten home from TN when I took the picture ๐Ÿ˜‚).
The only downside (to me) is that you can't use fabric softener sheets with these, so I have to remember not to wash them with our regular load of towels. Other than that, I have no complaints! We have used them on quite a few things: drying the floor after people have tracked snow and salt onto the floors, peeling veggies and having all the peels be on the paper towel (it is SO sturdy that my paper towel didn't break and drop things all over the floor like it normally would, LOL, where have these been all my life?!), cleaning up spills on the floor, counters, I've grabbed them just to dust with ๐Ÿ˜‚, and they don't leave the little paper things all over after having swiped a table. Can you tell I love these? I think it is one of my all-time favorite gifts. I think it will be go-to represent for couples getting married! They might not appreciate it at first, but what a life saver they are! Depending on our usage, I might still make some, but they will have to fit just so around the Chloven roll, LOL!

As an aside, I have been meaning to write this post since I got home, but once again, I have been behind on all the things. I have plans to share about a few more things similar to this.
