"But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give a reason for the hope you have. But do this with gentleness and respect." 1 Peter 3:15

Plum Creek Greenway

 September 6, 2025

Today we decided we didn't feel like driving all the way to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park to hike, we wanted to be closer to home. We were tired and didn't want to be out all day. So, we decided to stick closer to home and start the Trekking Through Autumn program. We heard about this program last year and it was a fun way to get out and hike, learning new trails in the area. We missed getting the beginner's backpack by one hike! This year, we are starting earlier, so hopefully we will have the right weather, and the time to complete it. If not, we will still have gotten out and exercised, so still winning!

Anyway, we decided to do the Plum Creek Greenway. If you look at the map, it is only 1.4 miles, but the Greenway connects with other trails and goes on for miles upon miles. We ended up doing a 3 mile trek, which is what I wanted for today. Nothing too strenuous or overly long. It was in the high 50s when we went, and it had been raining earlier this morning, but by time we got on the trail, it was sunny and went up to about 65. It was a beautifully cool morning, perfect for a hike.

On a side note, we have lived here for 2 1/2 years. We lived in Monroe for over 6 years. In all that time, when I was out and about, there was only one time that I ran into someone I knew. This morning, on the trail, we ran into one of the ladies in my Bible Study group, we said hello but didn't stop to chat, we were both with people and going in opposite directions. This is the third time I have run into someone I know out and about, and the second time it was one of my Bible Study ladies! I just thought it was neat.

Anyway, the trail we chose to hike is completely paved and wide. It was not very buggy out today and most of the trail is in the shade. The only downside was/is the bathroom situation. They have two restrooms, one in each of the parking lots. However, they are porta john bathrooms, with no sink/running water to wash your hands. Needless to say, I wouldn't do an extremely long hike there as the restroom was not clean and very stinky. We did a hike there last year as it was also on the Trekking through Autumn list (not all places are the same as last year), and it is one we would do again.

Here are the pictures I took this morning.

I thought this green lake looked so gross ↓
This fishing hole looked better ↓
With a playground you would think the bathroom situation would be better, but I guess this way it is easier to maintain.
One of the things I love most about Ohio is how walkable it is! I know I have said that in other posts, but the more we get out and explore, the more I really appreciate it. There are trails everywhere making it so easy to get out and be active.
