Where has July gone??? Each month seems to fly by faster!! Welcome back to share four somethings, a monthly link-up hosted by Heather Gerwing (thank you Heather!) where you literally share four somethings on the fourth Saturday of the month. The categories are Something Loved, Something Gleaned, Something Braved (or saved), and Something Achieved. Even if you do not participate in the link-up, I would love to hear your four somethings from the last month.
Something Gleaned
This month I read Everybody Always by Bob Goff. This book was/is AMAZING!!! Here are a few things that spoke to me:
Love isn't something we fall into; love is someone we become.
We're supposed to love the people in front of us. We're the ones who tell them who they are. We don't need to spend as much time as we do telling people what we think about what they're doing. Loving people doesn't mean we need to control their conduct. There's a big difference between the two. Loving people means caring without an agenda.
It's this simple: I want people to meet you and me and feel like they've just met everyone in heaven.
Sometimes we make loving people a lot more complicated than Jesus did.
I could go on but I recommend you read the book for yourself and find the things that speak to you!
Something Braved or Saved
Something Achieved
I made a list of wishes/dreams for my birthday that was this month. You can see it here, if you are interested. One of the things that I decided to "wish" for was to learn to crochet. I have wanted to learn for years. I tried a few years ago and it didn't go well, so I quit. I went out on my birthday (July 19) and bought a few things of yarn, some crochet hooks, and sat down with YouTube in front of me, and I started to learn to crochet. I have finished two coasters (that's what I am calling them because of the size 😉), but it is something. They are not perfect, but I am learning the beginning steps of crochet.
I loved your four somethings Cindy! How cool to learn to crochet. I learned when I was a child and find it therapeutic! Your birthday wish list was precious-wish we lived closer, I am known for my awesome gluten free cupcakes! Happy Birthday in advance!
ReplyDeleteThanks Donna, I drove about 30 minutes and paid a pretty penny, but I did get my cupcake :) Thanks for the birthday wishes.
DeleteHappy Birthday, Cindy! Thanks for the book recommendation. I've heard good things about the author. Congratulations for starting your journey of learning crochet! I think that is something braved (learning something new) and something achieved (making coasters). Have fun!
ReplyDeleteLisa, I think so too, LOL!
DeleteI love your 4 things. Crochet seems so difficult to me. Maybe you can crochet potholders now. O and happy birthday!

Arieth, that is my hope! Crochet has always been scary to me as well, but I am SO glad I tried again. My daughter tried to learn too and she has natural ability, she has picked it up MUCH faster than me :) Give it a try!
DeleteHappiest birthday wishes! I hope you had a wonderful day! I just finished reading Bob Goff's book. I so enjoyed the first half (or 3/4s) of the book - and found it so encouraging and inspiring - but I thought it went on for about three chapters too many. I do need to return it to the library soon (thanks for the reminder!) I tried crochet a while back. It's much trickier than it looks!! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer. I hope you have a great week!
DeleteWay to go learning something new! I love Bob Goff's books too!
ReplyDeleteHopefully learning something new will keep the brain active, LOL. Have a great week!
DeleteI'm so glad you learned to crochet for your birthday like you wanted to. Your coasters look great. The stitches are even in size, which a lot of beginners have trouble doing. I hope you continue. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them.
ReplyDeleteAlso, happy belated birthday! :D I hope it was a good one.
Aw, thanks Jenni! They are a little wonky, I need to learn to count each stitch, but I am happy to be making progress!
DeleteHappy belated birthday, Cindy! The crochet looks good! Jayda InStitches is a great resource. She has all kinds of tutorials and projects and is fun to watch! I love to crochet, but find myself doing in the fall and winter. So, I'll be looking for a new project soon. Blessings on your week.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Pam, I will look her up :)
DeleteWhat a sweet surprise of the books!! Happy belated Birthday!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Heather!
