"But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give a reason for the hope you have. But do this with gentleness and respect." 1 Peter 3:15

Bookshelf Quilt and Ohio quilt

I have been wanting to do a bookshelf quilt for a year and a half (ever since I saw the idea in a quilting magazine!). But, with running our own sewing business I always had things to prep for that and didn't have time to start it. As we have gotten better organized (and decided not to do camps this summer), I have had more free time. Once I finished my Ohio Quilt, I couldn't wait to dive into my bookshelf quilt. It's been up a few weeks, so I am glad to finally get around to finishing this post!

Side note, I realized I never shared my Ohio quilt here! So, I am putting the pictures here for those who might not have seen it. I made it from the squares and fabrics I collected when I did the All Ohio Shop hop.

On to the book quilt...Once I decided I was going to do the quilt I went out and bought the border and back fabric, and started saving selvage pieces of fabric (to use on the bookshelves), and scraps of fabric that I might want to use.

When I finally sat down to do the quilt I realized I didn't really need the selvages, I had acquired enough fabric with words on them, plus as I was cutting fabrics to make the "books" I decided to use leftover scraps from previous projects, making the quilt even more special.

I found the top and bottom fabric at different quilt stores. The pink sewing fabric is leftovers from making pin cushions for our sewing business. The flowers fabric is leftover from my mom's quillow, and the black fabric my daughter used to make a purse.
The top fabric is leftover from making my sister a kitchen aid mixer cover. I intentionally bought the fabric that says "Nose in book...butt in chair...life is grand" for this project.
The dinosaur quote came off of something I made for my son years ago, the sewing fabric I bought for this project, and the pizza that is on the hearts is from the leftover fabric from making my own kitchen aid mixer cover.
The chicken fabric is what I made my brother-in-law a quillow out of, the flowers were the backside of my mom's quillow.
The Peanuts fabric is what I used to make my son a quillow, the purple polka dots and the coffee cups were leftover from making a large tote bag.
The stitch in time fabric is leftover from when Kayla (my daughter) made a shirt in her sewing class as a kid, the book fabric was a gift to me for this project, and the pink polka dot fabric I bought on the shop hop because I thought it was pretty.
The two fabrics on the end are also fabrics I grabbed while doing the Ohio Shop Hop, the Friends fabric is leftover from my daughter making a purse, and the book fabric was also a gift from the same lady for this project.
Nothing particularly special about these fabrics, bought the "Home is who u share it with," fabric specifically for this project.
Close up of the sewing fabric.
The quilt is starting to come together.
Almost done, just needs the binding.
Finished and hung in my room, probably should have made the bed a little neater and picked the cords up off the floor 🤦
Finished with a peek toward my bookshelves!
Final project.

While the quilt looks pretty good on the wall, I will confess that it is CROOKED! Why, because I made it, LOL! One side got pulled up higher than the other when I was quilting and I didn't realize it until it was on the wall. I was so frustrated and sad, but I am not perfect, and obviously, neither will my work/quilts be! I goofed in another place too, but I don't think I need to confess all my mistakes, LOL! I will say, I am learning from my mistakes.

"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." James 1:17

"Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord! Psalm150:6

  3. Both quilts are beautiful! Real works of art! I love the Ohio quilt, and the bookshelf one is the kind I'd like if I was a quilter. I've done only a little quilting - my mom and aunt have done a lot though. Thanks for sharing your wonderful work!
