"But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give a reason for the hope you have. But do this with gentleness and respect." 1 Peter 3:15

Headlands Beach

While my sister and her family were here in June, they wanted a Lake Erie beach experience. After researching a few options, we decided on Headlands Beach, in Mentor Ohio. Headlands beach boasts the longest natural beach in the state of Ohio. It is a half-mile long.

What I liked:

🌞 it was fairly easy to get to

🌞 it had mostly clean bathrooms

🌞 it wasn't crowded

🌞 it feels like the ocean, even though it's a lake

🌞 free entrance and parking

What I didn't like:

πŸ˜’ it was a hike to the bathroom to the water

πŸ˜’ it's a rocky beach

πŸ˜’ no lifeguards

Out of control things I didn't like:

πŸ˜’ it was very windy

πŸ˜’ it was cold

My sister and I were not impressed with the beach. I am somewhat of a beach snob, having lived in the Carolinas and overseas where the beaches are sandy. I would not go back to Headlands Beach simply because it is a rocky beach, it was windy, there were no trashcans for trash, unless you count the dumpster in the parking lot. While it wasn't crowded, people crowded near you, which got obnoxious when kids started throwing balls and stuff around (the wind was insane, so trying to catch anything was impossible).

The size of some of the rocks!!
Now, to be fair, we probably would have enjoyed our trip more if the weather had not been so cold and windy! We tried to do things like this on the best weather days, but the whole week they were here was cooler and very windy. Also, despite the rocks, cool temps, and wind, my brother-in-law and niece enjoyed the few hours we spent at the beach. My only regret is not sucking it up and walking down to the lighthouse. I am sure it would have been the highlight of the trip, and would have warmed us up a bit. The only reason I didn't is because my flipflops were not the best for the walk to the lighthouse, and with the rocks I couldn't walk barefooted.
